Messy Church usually happens on the 1st Saturday of each month, 11am – 1pm (in term time)
Messy Church has been running at Brixham URC since 2005 and we have undergone several reconfigurations since the move from Bolton Street to New Road in 2008.
A new teams and new surroundings have created both challenges and great blessing over the years. It's lovely that so many families have continued to attend regularly and get involved. Over time we have seen several helpers move on to different parts of the country. We wish them God's Blessing and we hope they will fly the flag for Messy Church in their new locations. However, It's also been good to welcome new helpers with new ideas.
Why not come along, We'd love to see you there !
We are always glad to have more help so if you would like to get involved in helping with Messy Church please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
What is Messy Church?
The first Messy Church (and the one featured on the Fresh Expressions DVD) was in Portsmouth. Other churches have since been inspired to copy the idea but no two churches run it in exactly the same way.
The original messy church consists of - a monthly event
Messy Church reaches out to families who would be comfortable with the idea of exploring the Christian faith but are unlikely ever to join us on a Sunday morning. It provides a totally new experience of Church, which involves children and their parents enjoying creative activities and food together. A short worship time is a central part of the event and hopefully pulls together the biblical theme that has been used as a thread throughout the other activities. Messy Church is NOT an attempt to get people interested and then feed them into our Sunday morning services, it is a new kind of Church, part of Brixham URC but not necessarily a stepping stone to involvement with anything else we do.
What is Messy Church like?
Everyone's welcome and there are no age limits! Children are encouraged to come with their families. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
The programme ~ of a short time of welcoming people in, including drinks and an activity based on the theme, followed by an hour of creative activities, 15 minutes of worship and then a meal together.
Leadership
The management team consists of four people, who are jointly responsible for organising Messy Church, but also have particular roles within it:
Fiona : Co-ordinator
Hannah & Ann : hospitality and food
Hazel, Gail and Nicola : activities and crafts
Fiona : Worship Leader
We also rely heavily on other helpers who regularly give their support and commitment. Messy Church would not be a success without them!
