What is Messy Church?

The first Messy Church (and the one featured on the Fresh Expressions DVD) was in Portsmouth. Other churches have since been inspired to copy the idea but no two churches run it in exactly the same way.

The original messy church consists of - a monthly event

Messy Church reaches out to families who would be comfortable with the idea of exploring the Christian faith but are unlikely ever to join us on a Sunday morning. It provides a totally new experience of Church, which involves children and their parents enjoying creative activities and food together. A short worship time is a central part of the event and hopefully pulls together the biblical theme that has been used as a thread throughout the other activities. Messy Church is NOT an attempt to get people interested and then feed them into our Sunday morning services, it is a new kind of Church, part of Brixham URC but not necessarily a stepping stone to involvement with anything else we do.

What is Messy Church like?

Everyone's welcome and there are no age limits! Children are encouraged to come with their families. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

The programme ~ of a short time of welcoming people in, including drinks and an activity based on the theme, followed by an hour of creative activities, 15 minutes of worship and then a meal together.
